Saab BioPower 100 Concept

At the 2007 Geneva Motor Show, Saab demonstrated its leadership in the use of biofuels by showing the first production-based engine to be optimized for E100 (100% bioethanol) fuel.

It was part of Saab’s ‘rightsizing’ engine development strategy, using ‘small’ engines to give ‘big’ engine performance and lower emissions.

Fitted to a 9-5 SportCombi, the BioPower 100 concept featured a 2.0-liter BioPower turbo engine developing 300 hp and 400 Nm of torque, giving zero to 100 kph in 6.6 sec and 80-120 kph fifth gear acceleration in 8.2 secs. It showed the performance potential of pure bioethanol when combined with Saab turbocharging expertise.
