Mercedes-Benz SL55 AMG
The SL55 AMG is without doubt the automotive industry’s equivalent to Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde, with a split personality and a decided mean streak. It is perfectly content cruising around town at a sedate 35 mph with the retractable hardtop folded down and cushioning its passengers in classic high-grade Mercedes luxury while they enjoy the California sunshine.
If you mash the throttle, however, its true AMG colors come to the fore. The hand-built 5.4-liter, 32-valve SOHC V8 unleashes the full might of its 469 horses and wails a symphonic supercharged baritone through its four tailpipes on the way to 60 mph in just four and a half seconds. With an electronically limited 155 mph top speed, the SL55 retains and improves on its grand touring roots while keeping high-speed company with the best of its contemporaries from BMW and Porsche.
This car was auctioned off by RM Auctions in June of 2010 at the Town and Country Resort & Convention Center, San Diego, California.
469 bhp, 5.4-liter, 24-valve SOHC V8 engine with Bosch fuel injection and supercharger, five-speed automatic transmission, four-link independent front suspension, multi-link independent rear suspension, active body control, and four-wheel ventilated hydraulic disc brakes with ABS. Wheelbase: 100.8"
