A woman says she got her windshield changed by Safelite. It’s safe to say that she is not satisfied with the results. But is what allegedly happened really Safelite's fault? Viewers are torn.

TikTok creator @1208ioc posted a video with her complaint. “Safelite Auto Glass,” she sings to start the video. “Go to Safelite and get your windshield changed right.”

The TikToker’s demeanor changes in an instant, and it seems like her detached and hanging rearview mirror might be the reason. “Right,” she says flatly. “I would never go to Safelite again. The worst ser—”

The video cuts out abruptly. “Please don’t go to Safelite. Save the headache,” she writes in the caption.

Should You Avoid Safelite for Windshield Replacement?

In the video's comments section, viewers debated whether Safelite was to blame.

“I dislike Safelite as much as the next guy, but that’s not Safelite’s fault,” wrote one person.

In response, the woman wrote, “It’s a newer car. If it’s not Safelite’s fault, they can tell me and I can take it back to my dealership. My car is under warranty, so riddle me that, Batman.”

A second person agreed. “This has got nothing to do with [Safelite] and all to do with your mirror itself,” they wrote. “Because the mirror is attached to the glass, therefore, they didn’t mess it up.”

Other people defended Safelite. “They literally tell you that if you have any problems let them know and they’ll come fix it,” one wrote. “This video is pointless.”

Another person said, “Shop locally.”

Is The Rearview Mirror Issue Safelite’s Fault?

As one person pointed out, Safelite does offer a lifetime warranty on its glass repair and replacement services. Its website directs customers with issues to the customer care department.

However, it does appear that some customers have complained about Safelite’s service standards. Its Consumer Affairs page has a 1.5-star average rating based on over 1,200 reviews. Reviewers there complain about inconsistent service quality and warranty issues and limitations.

A year ago, a Reddit user posted in r/autoglass to ask why Safelite's online reviews are so negative. One person surmised, “Safelite is just the largest company by a long shot. It’s not even close. So it’s just a way larger sample size. People who have bad experiences are more likely to voice their opinions than someone who has a pleasant experience and goes about their day.”

What do you think?

Another person offered their perspective. “There are good techs and bad techs both at Safelite and independent shops,” the person wrote. “Maybe they’ve gotten worse, not for me to say. I do auto glass and took my wife’s car to my local Safelite as it wound up being the cheaper route for me. They did good work and I know it’s backed up by a nationwide warranty. Not shilling for them, just being honest.”
