Michigan Man Drops Off His Car At Walmart And Goes Shopping. Then He Comes Back—And Catches A Worker In A Lie: 'Really?'
'I go shopping, come out, and they're like...'
Changing a vehicle’s tire is simple enough when you have the right tools. All you need is a basic understanding of the process, a car jack, a lug wrench, a spare tire, and anywhere from a few minutes to about an hour of your time.
According to a TikTok creator, however, a Walmart Auto Care Center in New Hudson, Michigan, couldn’t complete the task.
The video, which was viewed over 5,882 times, was posted by user @arcoman86.
What Went Wrong During A Tire Installation At Walmart?
@arcoman86 explains he dropped his GMC Sierra off at the Walmart auto care center, where staff told him he’d be able to pick it up after he finished his shopping.
“I go shopping, come out, and they're like, ‘Sir, we can't get your tire off,’” the man recounts. “None of the lug nuts are coming off.”
He asks, “Really?” as he takes a lug wrench to several of the lug nuts on his tire, demonstrating that they can, in fact, loosen.
He adds in the caption, “Lesson learned not to buy tires from Walmart.”
Reached via phone, a worker at the Walmart in New Hudson, Michigan, declined to comment.
Commenters Don’t Trust Auto Care at Walmart
In the comments section, viewers warned against dropping off your car at Walmart in general.
“You're the one who went to Walmart for truck maintenance,” one user wrote.
“I WOULDN’T LET WALMART WORK ON A PEDDLE CAR,” stated another.
“I’ve never had issues with Walmart but I would never go there for tires,” reiterated a third.
“Your first mistake was taking your truck to Walmart for service. Your second mistake was posting a video saying you take your truck to Walmart for service lol,” joked a fourth commenter.
Is The Walmart Auto Care Center Worth It?
The retail corporation’s car maintenance centers offer basic services such as oil changes, tire installation, battery replacement, and the like.
In the Consumer Affairs Walmart Auto Care Center review page, most customers expressed dissatisfaction with the services provided, with 1,144 reviewers giving it 1.4 stars out of five.
Reviewers most commonly complained about slow service, improper tire installation, rude staff, upselling attempts, and more.
However, with over 2,500 car maintenance centers in the United States, service may vary from one location to the next. The one located in New Hudson, Michigan, for example, receives positive reviews from customers consistently.
It has a 4.7 out of five on Carfax, with most reviewers appreciating their walk-in availability, helpful staff, and overall good service.
What Can Go Wrong During a Tire Change?
While generally a simple task, replacing a tire can get complicated if you don’t know your way around the tools, you don’t have the correct key to unlock a locking lug nut, the lug nuts seize, or you’ve installed the tires incorrectly.
However, a professional auto repair technician should have the knowledge and tools necessary to complete a task such as tire replacement. It’s unclear what may have caused the incident @arcoman86 described.
Via phone, an employee at the New Hudson, Michigan Walmart told Motor1 that they could not comment on the matter and referred us to corporate. Motor1 has reached out to Walmart corporate via contact form and the TikToker via TikTok messages for comment and additional details. We’ll update this piece if they respond.
