'With A Big Gulp': Man Goes To 7-Eleven For Gas. Then They Make Him An Offer He Can't Refuse
'Anything helps at this point.'
With gas prices climbing faster than they have in years, people will take whatever relief they can get at the pump. That’s especially true if the discount is only a text message away. Now, commenters are sharing one more hack they use when filling up.
7-Eleven Gas Discount Deal
In a video, father of nine @headsetdad was filling up his tank at a 7-Eleven gas station when he noticed something on the pump screen: "Text DEAL to 711711 and get 30 cents off per gallon on your next two fill-ups."
He texts it on the spot. "So I just texted it to see if I can add it to it and let you see it," he says. He reminds anyone watching to have a 7-Eleven account set up before trying it. It’s unclear from the video whether the discount went through.
Gas Prices Are Up—And People Are Fed Up
Gas prices have spiked sharply in recent weeks following the outbreak of the Iran war, pushing prices at the pump up faster than in decades. From March 2 to March 16, the national average for regular gas jumped from $3.01 to $3.96 per gallon, according to PBS News.
The ripple effects are showing up in how Americans feel about, well, everything. Consumer sentiment fell nearly 6% in March to its lowest point since December 2025, according to the University of Michigan Surveys of Consumers, and the decline cuts across age groups and political parties.
A CBS News poll of more than 3,300 adults found that 85% said gas prices in their area have gone up, and 90% expect them to keep climbing.
The math adds up fast. TheStreet reported that every $1-per-gallon increase in gas prices translates to roughly $450 more per year in fuel costs for the average driver.
How 7-Eleven's Fuel Savings Program Works
According to 7-Eleven's website, the current introductory text offer is actually 25 cents off per gallon on your next three fills when you text SAVE to 711711 (the deal in the video may reflect a promotion that's since been updated).
Members who sign up for the free 7Rewards loyalty program get at least 5 cents off per gallon on every fill after their enrollment offer, with the potential to combine discounts for up to $1 off per gallon. Teachers, military, first responders, medical workers, and students can get additional savings through ID.me verification. There's also a Price Lock feature in the app that lets you lock in a local gas price for four days, which is handy if you think prices are about to jump.
Commenters React
"Thanks for the tip. Jax fl is at about $4 a gal. anything helps at this point," a top comment read.
"Always pay in the app for price lock too!" a person advised.
"I wonder if it works at Speedway since they own all Speedways now," another wondered. According to an X post, Speedway customers can save 25 cents per gallon on their next three fill-ups if they text "SAVE" to 96001.
