Dale Earnhardt Jr. is Selling Two of his Chevy Camaros
When your “company car” every weekend is a 2016 Chevrolet SS race car… there’s a good chance you have a few more Chevys in your collection. For NASCAR racing star Dale Earnhardt Jr., that couldn’t be closer to the truth. Last year, the famed driver sold a rarified 1999 Callaway Corvette C12 and ’55 Bel Air from his collection, and it appears he’s ready to part with a few more of the Bowtie’s icons. Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s JR Motorsports recently posted five of the family’s cars up for sale on eBay, which include two of Jr.’s Camaros and one owned by his sister and company co-owner Kelley Earnhardt. Better hide your credit cards before taking a peek below. Just a suggestion.
The more unusual of Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s Camaros is oddly enough his newer car, a 2002 Camaro Z28, which was built by custom shop GMMG Inc. as a tribute to professional drag racer Dick Harrell, who was often referred to as “Mr. Chevrolet”.
Look closely and you’ll notice the Camaro’s body has been widened and pumped-up with a new carbon fiber hood… for good reason too. Originally, the Camaro was outfitted with a punchy LS6 V8. In 2014, Jr. replaced that mill with an even racier LS7 V8, now capable of producing 610 horsepower. Amazingly after all these years it only has 4,025 miles too.
Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s second Camaro on eBay hails from an older vintage. 1973. The second-generation Camaro wears a similar shade of orange and was custom built by Detroit Speed to be a race-inspired yet functional sports coupe. A roll cage, NASCAR-style fuel cell, six-speed manual, and LS2 V8 complete the package, which has only seen 2,174 miles since it was built.
The third Chevrolet Camaro hails from sister Kelley Earnhardt, but expectedly it’s just a racy as her brother’s rides. Custom built by Hendrick Performance Group, Earnhardt’s 2010 Camaro is the first of just 11 souped-up in similar fashion, featuring a burly Magnusson supercharger, bespoke exhaust, tuned engine computer, plus coilover shocks and uprated sway bars. Put your foot down and you’ll be unleashing over 600 horsepower.
Those three Camaros aren’t the only cars to be on Jr.’s “for sale” short list, however.
The NASCAR star is also selling off a custom 1994 Jeep Cherokee 4x4, which he purchased from a friend with a blown engine in tow. No matter. The engine was replaced with a 350 cubic inch Chevrolet V8, and now the Jeep sits high atop big mud tires and a custom off-road suspension.
For those looking to do less off-roading and more beach-going with the whole family, Jr.’s stretch electric golf cart might be of interest. According to the listing, the Hummer-styled golf cart was built for the Earnhardt vacation home and has been used off and on for the past six years. Need to clear some obstacles on the way to the beach? Thankfully the six-seater cart does feature a three-inch lift kit.
Like ‘em? Dale Earnhardt Jr.’s eBay car auction concludes on July 27th; that said, bidding for each vehicle has already hit quite competitive numbers. At the time of writing, bidding for Earnhardt’s ’02 Z28 Camaro has already exceeded $90,000.
