Custom Mercedes-Benz CLS 500 Hides In Plain Sight
A Mercedes-Benz CLS is hardly the kind of vehicle that begs for extensive aftermarket customization. While plenty of people with the means have thrown rims and a wraps their own CLS, you don't often see them fully built out into something truly eye catching. As is often the case, a German tuning house set about taking something unassuming, and making into something fierce. M&D Exclusive Car Design have taken a 2016 CLS 500 and turned it into something absolutely nobody will miss. If you're tired of your kids telling you how boring you are, try a "Stealth" wrap like this one. Yes, M&D seems to have a sense of humor when it comes to naming their projects. This "Stealth" CLS is anything but, with its Matte Charcoal/Matte Black over Matte White with bright orange highlights, it's a testament to a shop that is clearly quite skilled when it comes to transforming vehicles. Typically decals take away from the aesthetic of the vehicle, but in this case, the "Jet Intake" placements behind the massive flared fenders are just the right amount of wrong. Besides, if 'urban camouflage' works on anything, it works on a sleek luxury car that's been fitted with a muscular body kit. M&D's PD500 Black Edition adds a new front bumper with CLS 63 driving lights, front wings, rear bumper with integrated diffuser, air intakes on the hood, side skirts, and a rear spoiler. The body is lowered on M&D's own Airmatic system, which means there's no excuse to scrape that beautiful front lip when leaving Cars & Coffee. The attention grabbing wrap job is just the start of an extensive list of modifications made to this CLS, wheels being the next thing immediately noticeable. Two piece Rennen RL17 forged alloys perfectly fill out the flared fenders, an easy job for the 9.0x20 and 10.5x20 staggered setup wearing 245/30R20 and 295/25R20 Hankook Ventus S1 Evo rubber. Adding another neat detail to the whole package, spokes of the wheels are turned to the right or left depending on the rotational direction, and were given a brushed alloy texture with a "Smoke" finish.
Between the wrap and the wheels, this CLS looks damn fast, but does it have to 'go' to back up the 'show?' Uh, this is the country with the Autobahn, so what do you think?

M&D used their own custom tuning software to up significantly up the output of the 4.7 liter bi-turbo V8 and remove the 155mph top speed limiter. With their ECU re-map in place, the "Stealth" CLS makes 498 horsepower (up from 408 stock), and 545 lb-ft of torque (up from 442 stock). That improved performance also makes for a throaty soundtrack, which comes courtesy of AMG Black Series tailpipes.
While it might not be everyone's cup of tea, M&D certainly managed to build something interesting and eye-catching.
