'Forza Horizon 3' Looks Bloody Bonzer, Mate

The first of what we hope will be many trailers for the new installment of the wildly successful Forza Horizon series has arrived, and unsurprisingly, Forza Horizon 3 looks to be the best open world racing game ever made. Bold claim? Absolutely, but here are a few reasons why it's justified. For starters, the game is now set in Australia, which should have been obvious by my super clever title. It also means a huge open world, two times larger than that of Forza Horizon 2, in fact. As you can see in the first 30 seconds of the trailer, the team at Playground went above and beyond to capture the details of Australia's diverse environments, which was kind of them, because you definitely want lush landscapes to tear up in a 2017 Lamborghini Centenario. From the desert, to the beach, and from metropolis to the mountains, the "background" of Forza Horizon 3 has been fully realized in an effort to make players feel like they're on a journey, rather than just playing a game. That concept is why Playground created a custom 12k HDR camera to capture enough photos that would allow them to make a 24 hour time-lapse video of the Australian sky. That video is projected onto the "skydome" in Forza Horizon 3, which means you're driving under real Australian skies. Crikey! (sorry). RELATED: See More of the Ariel Nomad Off-Roader
Unless you're a black card carrying member of the 1%, life comes with lots of bummer rules. But in the world of Forza Horizon 3, everyone is part of the 1%. You can do anything you want, you are in control, which means you can take being in charge of the "Horizon Festival" seriously and make it the biggest automotive music festival in the fictional world, or you can just drive around chasing kangaroos with a LaFerrari all day. Horizon 3 will also be a cross platform, fully connected game, which means cooperative multiplayer in campaign mode with up to four friends on a Xbox One, or computer with Windows 10. Of course you don't have to take on pesky missions with your friends, you can also just drive around aimlessly for hours, days, or even months. Forza Horizon 3 comes out September 23rd for those who pre-order the Ultimate Edition, and September 27th for the everyone else. Expect productivity around the automotive journalist community to subsequently plummet. RELATED: See Photos of the Lamborghini Centenario
