Just 60 BMW M4 ‘CS’ Editions Will Be Built, and Only for Spain
You’ve undoubtedly heard the old adage, “the grass is always greener on the other side.” Often times it highlights our misperceptions of reality. This time however, it’s kind of true. That’s because BMW Spain has announced a new special edition 4-series coupe—the 2016 BMW M4 Competition Sport Edition, or ‘CS’ for short—which will be sold exclusively in Spain and only 60 will be built. Sorry, rest of the world. Normally, such a limited-run special edition wouldn’t be a problem, but in this case, the 2016 BMW M4 ‘CS’ does happen to be quite the head-turner, and deeply missed.
According to BMW, the M4 Competition Sport Edition was designed to fill the performance gap between the already not-messing-around M4 Coupe (425 hp) and the absolutely hardcore M4 GTS (493 hp). As such, the BMW M4 ‘CS’ arrives with 450 horsepower, barred teeth, and a heap of extra M Performance tuning in order to stretch its legs from the standard car.
The most obvious modifications clad the M4’s body—a new carbon fiber reinforced plastic splitter, spoiler, and rear diffuser, as well as bespoke side skirts, big 20-inch forged aluminum wheels, and lighter-weight carbon ceramic disc brakes.
There is some German engineering witchcraft going on underneath the body too, though. BMW says the car’s chassis, suspension damping, differential, and stability control systems have all been tuned and tweaked. The car also boasts a new sports exhaust package for added growl, new seats for better lateral support, and comes equipped only with BMW’s seven-speed dual clutch automatic.

The halfway-point recipe seems to have worked as well. The M4 Competition Sport’s dash to 60 mph drops by a hair (4.0 seconds) while its top speed is now de-limited from 155 mph to 174 mph. Speedy. By comparison, the BMW M4 GTS launches to 60 mph in 3.8 seconds and onto 189 mph at full chat.
Jealous yet? Whereas the standard BMW M4 retails for €92,100 abroad and the M4 GTS asks €166,900, the Spain-only M4 Competition Sport will go for €132,900. Exterior color options are slim though; buyers can opt for either Brilliant White (seen here), San Marino Blue, or Jerez Black.
