The Fast and the Functional: Jaguar F-Pace Will Get 550HP SVO Treatment
We can all agree that we saw this one coming, right? In a market hungry—no, starving for high performance SUVs, there was no way Jaguar was going to pass up the opportunity to give the F-Pace more juice. The 380-horsepower 'S' trim is already plenty quick, more in fact, than most people need. But to succeed in the luxury market these days, you've got to cater to the niche markets. That being said, the F-Pace will get the sublime sound machine that is Jaguar's 550-horsepower supercharged V8 stuffed under the hood. Additional tweaks to the vehicle's geometry will be handled by Jaguar's Special Vehicle Operations division, known for such hits as the ultra-rare Project 7 and the jaw dropping F-Type SVR. Word on the digital street is that prototypes are already being tested, and we could see this new F-Pace as early as next year. RELATED: See More of the 2016 Jaguar F-Pace SUV
There are also rumblings of the XE sedan getting the once over by SVO in order to compete with the BMW M3, Cadillac ATS-V, and Mercedes-AMG C63. No decision has been made at this time, but with Jaguar-Land Rover pushing hard on the electrification front, an XE-R isn't a forgone conclusion.
When it comes to stupid fast SUVs, you either love them or hate them. If you've not been at the helm of a Range Rover Sport SVR, or Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT, I can understand how you'd fall into the crowd of haters. But trust me, one go with the performance variant of an already solid platform, and you'll get it. The 550-horsepower F-Pace should be no different.
