This Modified Mercedes CLK63 is Truly a Terrifying Machine
Of its own merits, the 2008 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series was one seriously twisted beast. It cranked out a sizable 500 horsepower, 465 lb.-ft. of torque, and could crack 186 mph before its limiter kicked in. It comes as no surprise then to learn it was modeled after Mercedes’ own Formula 1 safety car, a vehicle used to herd the fastest race cars in the world. With that in mind, it takes a lot of bravery to crank up the dial on the heady AMG Black, giving it even more power. But that’s exactly what someone has done with this coupe. Now, this CLK63 boasts a claimed 670 horsepower, 660 lb.-ft. of toque, and can likely set you down the road at what feels like warp speed. It even looks like a spaceship. The German super coupe recently surfaced for sale online, but has yet to meet its reserve. RELATED: See More of the '08 Mercedes-Benz CLK63 AMG Black Series
According to the listing, the increase in power is credited largely to the addition of a Weistec twin-screw Stage II supercharger with new ancillaries and an air-to-water intercooler, however the AMG Black can breathe a bit easier now too, exhaling through a new full high-flow stainless steel exhaust. Its timbre is adjustable as well. Simply flick the dashboard switch from “Silence” to “Violence”—yes, seriously—to open a deafening bypass valve in the exhaust. It sounds absolutely brutal.
All that power flows to the ground through a reinforced version of the CLK’s seven-speed automatic, now complete with hardened gears and a Works Bell paddle-shift system behind a Sparco steering wheel. Racy.
Where rubber meets the road lives a set of ADV.10 Monoblock wheels, wrapped in Pirelli PZero Trofeo tires. Look a bit deeper too and you’ll find giant Brembo brakes (six-piston front, four-piston rear) that coexist next to Moton Clubsport remote coilover shocks. With all that gear, this car ought to be one mean machine. And we should know, we filmed this beast up close.

The standard CLK63 AMG Black Series came clad with big fenders and carbon fiber bits, to which this car adds more in the form of a carbon fiber Vorsteiner front splitter, Varis rear wing, and rear diffuser. Tow straps have been added front and rear in case things get a bit too wild on track.
Inside things look equally racer-spartan. The interior has been fully stripped and roll-caged, a pair of Sparco racing seats find a home up front (the CLK63 Black never had rear seats), and cheekily the radio and navigation unit has been replaced with a cutout that reads “Genuine Cardboard Fiber.” It’s always good to have a laugh when rocketing along at warp speed...
