Watching Two BMW 3.0 CSL "Batmobiles" Go Head-to-Head is as Rare as it Gets
When it comes to vehicles that exemplify both form and function, few are more adept than the iconic BMW 3.0 CSL “Batmobile” race cars. The lightweight motorsport version of the BMW CS absolutely dominated the racing world for a number of years, and all the while had some of the coolest aerodynamic bodywork around. That unique bodywork earned the CLS the name “Batmobile,” and years after its 1970s dominance, seeing one in the flesh is a privilege for anyone so lucky. So seeing not only one, but two of these incredible straight-six track machines do battle is something that will make most enthusiasts salivate. The video below is from the Classic 24 Hours of Daytona, and features two actual CSL’s duking it out. They appear evenly matched up, though the white car looks to make its runs in the chicanes while the black car (camera car) seems to be able to make its moves on the straights:

The driver of the white car looks to have a bit more fight in him, as the car appears to make hard cuts on the setup to the straights and tends to brake much later. The white car may have gotten the best of the other, but they were truly duking it out. Those in attendance at the event, which was back in October, were lucky enough to see motorsport royalty doing what it does best.
And the sound of those engines at full speed? If that didn’t give you goosebumps, you might need to get checked for a pulse.
