Lingenfelter Unlocks an Extra 100 Horses from Corvette Z06
Few people would argue the latest and greatest Chevrolet Corvette Z06 needs more power. It currently readies a very healthy 650 ponies and 650 lb-ft of torque. But for the “can’t have enough” crowd, there are ways to extract even more, and the Lingenfelter performance shop has answers. The latest comes in the form of the company’s “Stage 2” performance package for the Z06’s 6.2-liter LT-4 V8, which utilizes the engine’s original 1.7-liter supercharger. However thanks to some clever tuning, the V8 now punches out a thunderous 750 horsepower and 750 lb-ft of torque. Zero-to-60 mph estimates and other performance figures have yet to be specified, but considering the standard Corvette Z06 hits 60 mph in a brisk 2.95 ticks, an extra 100 horses ought to carve a few more tenths out of that time. The source of that turn of speed comes from a few choice modifications. The Stage 2 package includes new ported “LC-4” cylinder heads, a custom LT4 camshaft, new headers, a 15-percent overdrive supercharger pulley, high-flow air filter, 100mm idler pulley kit, and an LT1/LT4 dry sump damper to keep the engine happy. While it doesn’t add any more power to the equation, the new Lingenfelter engine cover looks pretty racy too.
For those who aren’t looking to blast off into orbit, Lingenfelter also announced a Stage 1 package last summer with a bit less bite—720 horsepower and 730 lb-ft of twist—though it foregoes the new camshaft, header, and cylinder head upgrades. Those extra 70 ponies cost $3,995 fully installed. Watch this space for more on Stage 2 pricing.
