A woman and her husband visited a Lexus dealership to inquire about the cost of leasing a GX 550. She was stunned to learn how much it would cost.

TikTok user KK (@kjkeekz12) posted a video with her story last week. “I was shooketh to my core when I found this out,” she says to start the video. “Essentially, my husband and I went to the Lexus dealership because I’d been liking the videos I’ve seen of the GX 550s. Let’s go see how much one is, because why not?”

She and her husband make the trip to a nearby dealership. “I would be in the market to lease,” she says. “In my mind, I’m thinking back to all the commercials I would see when I was growing up. Zero percent down and you can get a $289 car payment. I know we’re in 2025 and things have changed, but it can’t be that bad.”

Currently, KK is paying $400 per month for her car payment and she feels like she is maxed out at that number. That’s why the price of a lease on a GX 550 shocked her so much.

“For $5,000 down on a lease on one of these GX 550s, the monthly payment would be $1,500,” she says. “That is someone’s rent for their home. You’ve got me so [expletive] up.”

In the comments section, viewers expressed their opinions about the pricing on the Lexus GX 550 and the rising costs of vehicles in general.

“As soon as you said GX 550, I knew the payments were gonna be up there,” wrote one person. “Maybe look at a Toyota Land Cruiser or Sequoia or Grand Highlander.”

“Girl, it’s a Lexus, what did you expect?” asked a second viewer.

A third person agreed, “You’re looking at a Lexus but expecting Toyota lease rates.”

How Much Does It Cost to Lease a Lexus GX 550?

Obviously, the cost of a lease on a GX 550 will depend on trim level and what you’re willing to put forward as a down payment. If you use the U.S. News & World Report car lease payment calculator, put in a $5,000 down payment, and assume the car will retain a residual value of $30,000 after the lease period, you’re looking at a $1,300 monthly payment.

A Reddit user posted to r/LexusGX a year ago asking about the lease price on a 550 and how much people put down on their lease. Several people insisted you shouldn’t put money down on a lease agreement. “Don’t put money down on a lease,” wrote one person in the comments. “If the car is stolen/totaled, you’re out the money.”

Several users said the current lease deals on a GX 550 don’t make financial sense for them. “Seven thousand down for $1,440 a month,” said one person.

“Since you should never put any money down on a lease, that comes to about $1,600 per month with $0 or near zero down (assuming it’s a 3-year lease). Essentially creeping into G Wagon territory at 2019 lease prices. Definitely not worth it from someone who leases cars every 12-18 months.”
