A Quick Lane Tire & Auto Center worker has exposed how much the company has raised the price of an oil change in a one-year period. The worker’s allegation has people raging over what many deemed “corporate greed.”

Creator and Quick Lane employee Skyler (@skylr.m) recently posted a TikTok about discovering old oil change signs that made him realize how drastic the price has increased over the last year.

“These are the signs that we would use for our oil changes last year,” he begins. These signs listed an oil change at Quick Lane to cost $39.99.

Skyler then shows another group of A frame signs that lists oil changes to cost $59.95.

“These were ones we were using, but as you see, they’re in because the price went up again,” he continues.

His TikTok has generated over 191,000 views as of this writing.

How Much Does An Oil Change Cost at Quick Lane?

Skyler reports the new price for oil changes is nearly double what it was a year ago. The signs show a price of $69.95.

“I couldn’t tell you if inflation was real or happening right now, but it’s been one year,” Skyler says.

Skyler provides an update that the price has risen once again after getting the new Quick Lane marketing flier.

“One week after I filmed those last videos, they went up again to $79.99 or $120 for a full synthetic,” Skyler reports.

Skyler does admit this matches the competitive price for an oil change right now; however, he’s confused on why it’s so high.

“Just doesn’t make any sense because you can go buy five quarts of oil for like $30 on Amazon,” he says.

While the cost of oil is now around $30, Skyler claims that the price increase hasn’t led to higher wages for workers like him. He says they’re still getting paid the same amount.

“But somehow the price of labor is what’s bringing the price of the oil changes up. Meanwhile, the people doing the labor don’t get any pay raise or anything,” Skyler concludes.

How Much Does It Cost To Change Your Oil?

According to AutoZone, oil changes will cost between $30 and $100 depending on the type of oil.

Conventional oil will cost between $30 to $50 and synthetic oil will cost between $60 and $100.

Oil changes should typically take place every 5,000-7,500 miles, Kelley Blue Book reports.

Is It Really Inflation and Tariffs—Or Just Corporate Greed?

According to the US Inflation Calculator, the annual inflation rate for the US was 2.9% for August, which matches last year's percentage for August.

To put this into perspective, in 2020, the US recorded a 1.4% inflation rate. This was followed by a massive jump up to 7% in 2021.

This year is currently projected to finish around the same percentage, 2.9%, as last year.

Nevertheless, critics say that companies are using inflation as an excuse to raise prices and increase profits.

Tariffs are another reason companies cite when raising prices.

J.P. Morgan reports that as of Aug. 1, the US tariff rate was 15.8%. This is a large increase from the 2.3% rate at the end of 2024.

The price of an oil change should only be impacted by tariffs if the oil is imported, however. American Fuel & Petrochemical Manufacturers reports that 60% of all oil that runs through US refineries “is extracted right here at home.”

Quick Lane, a registered trademark of Ford Motor Company, reportedly uses Motorcraft oil, which is owned and operated by Ford. Motorcraft oil is purportedly manufactured in the US.

Blame the Billionaires?

People stormed to the comments section to share their frustration with corporate greed.

“You’re seeing corporate greed in real time,” one said.

“I love that you pointed out that the price doubled and your pay didn't go up,” another shared.

“I love that we call corporate greed ‘inflation’ so no one gets mad at billionaires,” a third replied.

Others accused companies of blaming tariffs for the sole purpose of raking in profits.

“Tariffs give companies excuses to gouge,” one person opined.

“They are using tariffs as an excuse to raise prices,” speculated another.

Update Oct. 3:  Via email, a spokesperson for Quick Lane told Motor1, "Regarding the viral TikTok, these are independent shops just like dealers. It is up to them to set pricing. Not Ford."

Via TikTok direct message, Skyler said, "I would like to add that I believe Quick Lane looked around at what other companies were charging for the services Quick Lane provides, and adjusted their prices to align with what the other companies believe the market will bear."
