Most people have been there: You're trying to park and hear an unexpected sound. Then comes the moment of truth: Do you leave a note with your information, or do you quietly drive away?
The decision becomes even more complicated if you're driving without insurance or with an expired license. For one Florida woman, someone made their choice, and it wasn't the right one—at least not from her perspective (or for her wallet).
In a viral video with more than 680,000 views, content creator Heaven Nourie (@heavennourie) shows the unfortunate thing that happened to her Hyundai Santa Fe.
As Nourie approached her car, she spotted a piece of paper tucked under her windshield wiper. As she reads the handwritten note aloud, it sounds normal at first.
"I hit your car. I'm sorry. I hope you have full coverage,” the person wrote.
They seem to be taking responsibility and probably left their contact info, right? Nope.
“My license bad so I had to go. I hope you have a good day," the rest of the note read. So the person partly did the right thing by leaving a note, but didn’t do the important part of taking financial responsibility for the damage, which was way more than just a scratch.
At first, Nourie doesn't see any damage. But when she walks around to the driver's side, the extent of the damage becomes clear.
"[Expletive], what the [expletive]," she exclaims. "Are you [expletive] kidding me right now? Are you [expletive] kidding me, bro?"

The driver's side of her Santa Fe is completely scraped up, with both door handles ripped off. In a follow-up video, Nourie also shows a dent on the front of the car. Despite the damage, she notes that she can still open her door.
"Look how far away I am from this spot. How the [expletive] did you hit my [expletive]?" she asks, pointing out that her car was parked well within the lines of her parking space.
In the caption, Nourie adds, "I was already exhausted from the day, then to have a hit and run. I had to repost this video because TikTok was tripping on me."
What Should You Do After a Hit and Run On a Parked Car?
According to Progressive Insurance, you should treat a hit and run on a parked car like any accident: Don't move your car, snap some photos of the damage, and call the cops to file a police report.
If someone hits your parked car and takes off, that's actually a crime. The police might be able to track down who hit you, especially if there are security cameras nearby.
As for insurance, it depends on whether you can prove who did it. If you can figure out who hit your car, their insurance should cover you. But if you can't prove who's responsible or they don't have insurance, you'll need to lean on your own collision coverage or uninsured motorist property damage coverage to pay for repairs. Just keep in mind that uninsured motorist property damage can't be used for hit-and-runs in some states.
Now, when someone actually does the right thing and leaves a note, Progressive says it should include their name, contact info, and insurance company details. From there, you call their insurance and look for any witnesses who might have seen what happened.
And if you're the one who accidentally hits a parked car? Don't drive away.
Leaving the scene is a crime that could land you with hit-and-run charges. If the owner isn't around, leave a note with your name, contact information, insurance company, and what happened. Then notify your insurance company before the other driver files a claim.
In comments on an follow-up post, Nourie said that she did try to find footage of the crash and also reported the incident to the police.
"I did all that nobody was any help it was excuse after excuse why they couldn't pull the footage," she says of the business she was parked outside. "I got a card from the cop so I've been checking in with him," she adds in another comment.
People were overwhelmingly outraged on Nourie’s behalf.
“Plz tell me you called the police and got footage from stores nearby,” a top comment reads.
“Hope YOU had full coverage? They had better hope they have a good lawyer girl ‘cause file charges,” said another.
“No door handles is crazy as hell,” a third wrote.

“What kills me is they damaged your car then said hope you have a good day… like what?” another person chimed in.
