Tesla Model S Wagon: The Perfect Car or Perfectly Frivolous?
How does one improve on the much-loved Tesla Model S? Do you add more power, better autonomous capabilities, or more “ludicrous” acceleration? Not according to fans.
As hinted by the 1,389 users (and counting) who “liked” this image on Facebook, what some fans really want is a sleek Tesla Model S wagon—perfect for ski holidays, the school run, and everything in between. If you’re flying out of your seat with excitement—relax—it’s not real, yet. Rain Prisk Designs is responsible for penning the striking wagon render, but it is a very interesting take on quite the popular EV. Any takers?
While some may laud the novel idea, wagon-izing the Model S isn’t without its hang ups. From a cost standpoint, retooling a Tesla wagon would likely be prohibitive and add needless expenditure in the increasingly niche wagon vehicle segment. Though the enthusiast fanbase loves the wagon, and likely will indefinitely, the base is relatively small compared to today’s crossover-buying masses. There’s also the part about added practicality. Typically, a wagon variant offers significantly more cargo and carrying capacity than its sedan sibling, for example, the Cadillac CTS-V and now-deceased CTS-V wagon. Given that the Model S already totes a nifty lift gate, spacious boot, and rear-facing seats, a wagon variant’s added practicality would be fairly negligible by comparison. And not to ignore the 800-pound gorilla in the corner…most Tesla shoppers in need of more space will find the new Tesla Model X appropriate, or the highly-anticipated Tesla Model Y small crossover. But we can still dream. Let us know if this Model S wagon would be the dream car for you in the comments below.
