These Are the 5 Most Expensive Cars on eBay
If you’re a fan of buying anything and everything four-wheeled, at some point you’ve likely done a little of that shopping on eBay. Each day, thousands of people buy and sell cars on the auction site, and in total, enough autos have sold on eBay to circle the moon…over four times. Yikes. But not all of those autos are inexpensive economy cars or affordable restoration projects. No, some can be quite rare, and that can mean asking prices well past a million dollars. If that sounds like your price range, well…you’re in luck. With December 2015 halfway in the bag, here are five of the most expensive cars money can buy on eBay. 2011 Ferrari 599 SA Aperta $1.5 million
More often than not, the sultry designs of Ferrari road cars have originated from under one roof—carrozzeria Pininfarina. In 2010, Ferrari chose to celebrate the Italian design house’s 80th birthday by melding its 599 grand tourer into a 661-horsepower drop-top. Only 80 SA Apertas were built, and this is one of them.
1962 Shelby Cobra
It's no surprise that all Shelby Cobras command otherworldly values these days, but this car is claimed to be a bit more special than most. According to the owner, this Cobra was originally owned by Lance Reventlow—an avid racer, heir to the Woolworth fortune, close friend of Carroll Shelby, and creator of the Scarab race cars. He’s quite the legend among racing types, which explains the cool $1.54 million price tag.
1971 Plymouth Hemi ‘Cuda
From one famous heir to another. This stunning '71 Hemi Cuda was originally purchased by Zachary Reynolds, one of the heirs to the R.J. Reynolds Tobacco fortune. Zach wasn’t your average heir, however. He struck his own path, built an expansive motorcycle and auto museum, and this Hemi ‘Cuda would be one of its prized displays. Prepare to drop your jaws—the paint is said to be original and the Hemi engine has just 2,010 miles on it from new.
2015 Porsche 918 Spyder (Weissach Package)
June 2015 marked an important benchmark in the Porsche history books—the end of production for the 918 Spyder. While you can't buy a new one anymore, you can buy one secondhand, it just won’t be cheap, as this $2 million 918 shows. It comes sporting the weight-saving Weissach package and is claimed to have been driven by famed racer Hurley Haywood.
2014 Bugatti Veyron
“Autobots, roll out!” It appears that someone likes the Transformers series quite a lot, so much in fact that they decided to give a multi-million dollar Bugatti a full Transformers paint job. Note the Autobots graphic on the hood and between the seats. As the headrests suggest, that super-fan goes by the name “Daniel.”
