Fake Ads Mock Paris Climate Change Conference
Every conference has its corporate sponsors, even ones on climate change. The sponsors of the COP21 Climate Conference in Paris are the subject of ads throughout the city calling them out as a bunch of hypocrites. It's the work of UK activist group Brandalism which had the fake ads created to look like just like the real thing used by the sponsoring companies, but with a few important changes. Volkswagen was an easy target with their recent diesel emissions woes and were featured in several ads being sorry-not-sorry for the cheat. RELATED: See Why Lead Wheel Weights Need to Go
Car companies were not the only ones targeted. Airlines, oil companies, and even government leaders were all mocked for saying one thing, but doing another when it comes to climate change. One ad even featured President Obama swimming in the ocean with his daughter while oil burned a noxious black cloud in the background.
According to Gizmodo, there were 600 ads placed throughout the city with artwork from 82 different artists in 19 different countries. The group aims to bring attention to what they believe is a corporate takeover of the climate talks.
