Watch The World's First Private Supersonic Jet
It's tough being rich, but it just got easier with the world's first fleet of supersonic private jets going into production. It's called the Aerion AS2 and it can hit speeds of Mach 1.5 saving a lot of time for road-weary travelers as they hop around the globe. How much time? A typical flight from London to New York takes about eight hours in the sky. The new Aerion AS2 can make the same trip in roughly 5.5 hours. That's a 2.5 hour savings where you can be on the ground meeting clients instead of in the sky. RELATED: Elvis Presley's Personal Planes Have a Huge Asking Price
The 3-engine jet is a collaboration with Airbus and uses Supersonic Natural Laminar Flow. This fancy piece of tech was made by DARPA and tested by NASA. Yes, that means this thing is going to cost quite a bit more than most of us can afford.
According to Sploid, the Aerion AS2 will take its first flight in 2023. That's eight whole years of having to fly the long way, but at least it will give you plenty of time to save every stinking dime in hopes of owning one of these.
