Mercedes-Benz SL-Class Gets a Much-Needed Facelift
German automaker Mercedes-Benz has been on a tear when it comes to revamping its lineup, evolving impressive models, and rolling out showstoppers like the SLS Gullwing and AMG GT sports car. But it feels like the SL convertible had been put on the back burner. Well according to these new photos, the SL is forgotten no more. The SL was long the cornerstone of the “fun” end of the Mercedes-Benz lineup. But in the last decade it had been eclipsed in prominence by the aforementioned SLS and AMG GT, as well as a slew of AMG-variants of the C-Class coupes and sedans and E-Class sedans and wagons. Well the new SL has received a much-needed update. RELATED: See images of the Mercedes-AMG GT Edition 1
The last update for the SL came in 2013, but left the hard-top convertible with some very ungainly headlights. The car just never felt like it had been thought through. Thankfully this new update smoothes out those lines.
The new headlights look much more like those of the AMG GT. There’s a heavily sculpted lower front fascia that is reminiscent of contemporary AMG designs. The updates are more subtle outback, but then again, that’s not where the attention was most-needed.

We’ll know more about the powertrain, price and availability when the SL officially debuts this week at the LA Auto Show. But with the given visual updates, that other information becomes less crucial to the success or failure of the SL.
