Uber Offering Rides in Eco-Friendly Supercars Through Friday
It seems like ride sharing apps are trying harder than ever to vie for your business. Last week Lyft was giving out rides in DeLoreans to celebrate “Back to the Future” Day, and now Uber is giving some lucky riders a chance to get carted around in some of the fastest and most impressive production cars around. According to Mashable, Uber has teamed up with NatGeo to promote its new show "Breakthrough." To generate buzz for the new program, which debuts on Nov. 1, the ride-sharing app is allowing its users to get rides in cars like the McLaren P1, BMW i8, and Tesla Model S. The Model S has been the standard-bearer for the concept of the high-end, high-performance electric vehicle, and has been wowing drivers with its impressive speed. But the i8 and P1 offer a different take on fuel-efficient driving. The former is the first supercar to put the plug-in aspect of the hybrid powertrain first, while the McLaren P1 is simply one of the most absurdly fast cars on the planet, and it just happens to be a hybrid. The selection of vehicles is inspired by the new show, which is supposed to focus on cutting-edge technology. If you want to ride one of these vehicles, open the Uber app and type in BREAKTHROUGH to see what vehicles are available. In addition to the BMW, McLaren or Tesla, riders might get picked up in a Biodiesel Porsche Cayenne, solar-powered prototype, or other vehicles powered by high-tech drivetrains.
