This High-Tech Car Seat is Spying On You
James Bond has some of the coolest gadgets in the spy business, from rocket belts to jet packs to rocket-shooting cigarettes. This car seat would be right at home in his arsenal. It looks like a regular car seat, minus the juice stains and Cheerios, but it's actually a sophisticated spying device. The spying car seat is sold by British company LMW Electronics, which is a part of surveillance firm called Digital Barriers. The fact that this is a British company really does make you wonder if Her Majesty's Secret Service has a few of these in use. The company says the product is one of many surveillance options available to the Colombian government. Of course, they're not going to tell you if James Bond has one of these in his three-row minivan/spy-car. RELATED: A Car Seat That Could Save Children From Forgetful Parents
According to Gizmodo, it's a comprehensive setup capable of capturing everything going on in a car. There's a camera with pan, tilt, and zoom to record passengers and get a nice close-up to identify who's in the car. It can be controlled remotely in real-time and records all the action on a USB drive that's hidden in the seat.
The product isn't sold everywhere, because it's not always legal. The government can't go around recording people on a whim. If you're in Columbia, however, you might want to double check that the car seat in the back of your ride is of the standard variety and not a hidden spy camera.
