Is Apple Getting Ready To Test Its Autonomous Car?
While the reign of autonomous cars is coming, it’s a reality that won’t be fully here anytime soon. Or at least that’s what we thought. Not only are normal auto manufacturers now playing with autonomous technology in terms of adding layers of safety to normal everyday cars, but tech giants like Google are also creating autonomous vehicles for the masses. However, tech giant Apple now wants in on the fun as well with Project Titan. According to numerous sources, Project Titan was only in its nascent stages of development a short while ago, however, new reports from USA Today are claiming that the project is well past the idea stage. The report cites documents obtained by The Guardian that state Apple has been recently attempting to secure a 2,100-acre piece of property near San Francisco that would become the company’s autonomous test facility. The plot of land Apple is looking into was the GoMentum Station, an old naval weapons station that has 20 miles of secured paved highways and city streets. According to the documents, Apple specifically wants to use the decommissioned naval base for the “testing validation and commercialization of connected vehicle (CV) applications and autonomous vehicles (AV) technologies to define the next generation of transportation network infrastructure.”
While practical applications and a full-on consumer car could be years away, this potentially massive purchase has many believing that Apple’s own car is happening sooner rather than later. While it’s been a closely held secret that Apple has an entire building working on automotive applications for the better part of the past couple years, the company has attempted to maintain an air of secrecy behind the project.

Or could the rise of autonomous automotive technology be the basis for a new enthusiast revival? Only time will tell, but for the moment, there seems to be many out there who believe that autonomous vehicles are not only the future, they are the present as well.
