"Uber for Private Jets" Startup Raises $20M from Jay-Z, Saudi Royals
Uber has been a supremely helpful tool for those looking to get around on a budget, as well as an alternative to the traditional taxi. But what if you seldom step foot into cabs, and are a member of the jet-set, yet need that same kind of on-demand service for flights? One business might have you covered. It is called JetSmarter, and is an app that lets you book a jet in seconds, making life easier for the 1%. Traditionally, booking an executive jet required lots of paperwork and a lot of back-and-forth with brokers. RELATED: Uber to Lease Cars Directly to Its Drivers Founder and CEO, Sergei Petressov, said in the original report to Business Insider it was that convoluted process led to JetSmarter’s birth. “I started the company out of a frustration with the process," he explained. "I kept thinking to myself, 'Why hasn't this service been brought into the digital world?’"

The service is broken into three different types of plans. JetDeals allows you to book a one-way private flight. JetShuttle lets you snag a seat on a previously booked private flight. Finally JetCharter offers private travel charters that are completely tailored to special routes and aircraft.
According to the report, members pay $9,000 a year, or about $800 a month for unlimited flights to anywhere in the world. Well, anywhere that is not a war zone or not deemed unsafe—Warlords and gun smugglers need not apply.

JetSmarter announced last week that it raised $20 million. It’s investors include Jay-Z and members of the Saudi Royal family. The infusion of cash will go towards buying more seats on more private flights. Currently JetSmarter buys about 35,000 hours worth of reservations ahead of time. Those are then the seats that are sold to the users of the apps. We’d be curious to see how this business grows, and we’d love to experience this for ourselves…for the benefit of reporting to our readers, of course!
