Watch a Jeep SRT8 Blast Past a Porsche Turbo in a Drag Race
The concept of a super-fast Jeep is somewhat bewildering. What was once the plucky runabout of wartime GIs has since morphed into a drag race demon. Strange as that may be, these track-tested Jeeps can truly run with performance car royalty… including the Porsche 911 Turbo S. And one did just that at a recent Dragtimes drag racing event in Russia. Up to the line rolled a Jeep Cherokee SRT8 and a late model Porsche 911 Turbo S. The Porsche is said to have muscled-up with a 650 horsepower Gorilla Racing Stinger Stage 2 package. The Jeep on the other hand sports a massive 1,200 horsepower custom twin-turbo setup. And it frankly shows. RELATED: Check Out the Sinister 2015 Jeep Cherokee SRT Red Vapor

The rear-engined 911 Turbo S jumps quickly on the start, but it doesn’t take long for the turbocharged Jeep to pull even, edge forward, and eventually blow past the sleek Porsche. Multiple car lengths separate the pair at the one kilometer finish line, and the times reflect that.
The Porsche managed 19.59 seconds in the kilometer run at 165 mph, while the potent Jeep notched 18.35 seconds at 180 mph and a quarter mile time of 10.12 seconds. Not what you’d call slow. The event leaderboard was dominated by Nissan GT-Rs, but impressively the twin-turbo Cherokee finished with the 17th fastest time of the day.
