Hitching A Ride in Tanner Foust’s 900HP Volkswagen Drift Passat
Sometimes, having the right car, at the right moment, can get you into places that you wouldn’t normally get into. It's like being at the right place at the right time. When I moved out to California, I unloaded my FR-S in favor of something new; a Volkswagen Golf R. After testing the Golf R in San Diego and scaring my editor for life, I knew I had to own one. And from there, it was my key to unlocking a host of Volkswagen owner events. One of those events was Fastivus at the Auto Club Speedway. It’s a pretty big Volkswagen shindig, with all types of V-Dubs coming from miles around. Not as big as SoWo, but rightly big for something that only started a few years ago. APR was there with a bunch of highly modified cars. Volkswagen brought an Amarok pickup truck, which was definitely the darling of the show. And there was all manner of stanced out cars roaming the lot looking as if they could scrape the odd pebble on the tarmac. RELATED: Check Out More of the 292-Horsepower Volkswagen Golf R
But I wasn’t only there to cover the event and score points with Volkswagen (though the event was pretty awesome). I was there to meet Top Gear USA host and professional drifter Tanner Foust. And he brought along his nitrous fed, 900-horsepower, tube frame, LS7 powered Formula Drift Passat with him. Better yet, he was giving rides. I think you know where this is headed.
