What Has 3 Wheels and an Electric Motor? The New Morgan EV3
The Morgan Three Wheeler is a wonderful, lovable machine. We drove one just a few weeks back, remember? But one of the greatest things about the Three Wheeler, is that iconic V-Twin engine that really solidifies the throwback look. Now, though, it’s gone. In its place, Morgan dropped an electric drivetrain and made its wonderful Three Wheeler, wonderful for the environment, too. It’s called the EV3. It’s still a prototype, admittedly, but one that Morgan hopes will make it to the production line in the next few years. PHOTOS: See More of the All-Electric Morgan EV3
The electric motor pumps out 101 horsepower to the rear wheels wheel, and weighs in at only 992 pounds. That’s both more powerful (101hp vs 82hp), and lighter (992 lbs vs 1,157 lbs) than the gas-powered version. So far so good then.
Total range is estimated at 150 miles, but Morgan admits the concept is still under development. So it might be even better going into production. The prototype will be on display at the Goodwood Festival of Speed later in the month.
