Rafael Nadal Says His Mercedes-AMG GT is Good, But Not Kia Good
It's the age old quandary. Athlete gets sponsored, athlete is good at being athletic, athlete enters event with better sponsor, athlete wins event, better sponsor awards athlete something awesome for winning, athlete has to tip toe around accepting the award. Welcome to Rafael Nadal's life this past week. Nadal, who has been sponsored by Kia for years, won the Association of Tennis Professionals Mercedes Cup in Stuggart, Germany by beating Viktor Troicki 7-6 (7-3), 6-3 in the final. But a trophy wasn't the only prize. He also was given a bright 2016 Mercedes-AMG GT S. Though it was a bit awkward with his sponsorship, he was a good sport and took it in stride. "It's not a Kia, but it's still good," Nadal said, according to CNN. When asked if he'd drive it home, he replied, "Without the cameras around, perhaps yes. I don't know if I can change the color, because the color is a little bit too much for me."
Sorry, Rafa, you're going to have to deal with the color, which is such a pain. It'll only help you make an entrance when you drive it. Just ask Nick Saban.
