Soon You Can Shred Your Tires and Then Wear Them, Too
Let’s face it. Few of us give any thought to where our used tires go. But if you are remotely environmentally conscious, you can now take your used tires and wear them on your feet. Timberland, the well-known outdoors brand, has come up with the first purposely built tires that are designed to be recycled into outerwear soles. RELATED: See the Famous Footwear V8 Toyota Sienna
It seems to make sense. The tire and footwear industries, Timberland says, are the two largest users of virgin rubber. So, by recycling your tires you’re protecting the rubber tree plant. What’s not to like? The tires are expected to be ready for recycling in 2017.
The recycled footwear is part of a joint venture between Timberland and Omni United. Its president said it’s a logical correlation between fashion and tires. Sure, a set of 305 Pirellis on the back of a Lamborghini Huracan get my heart thumping. but I never thought of them as a fashion statement.

The first set of tires rolled out in April. More are coming in July and the entire line will be ready by 2016. More information is available at TimberlandTires.com.
One question remains, though. Once your shoes wear out will Timberland recycle them into bicycle tires? Tires for Ferrari scale models?
