Chris Harris Wrings Out the Ferrari 488 GTB On the Track…For Science
hundreds thousands of auto journalists on this planet who are out there driving cars and putting their thoughts and opinions out into the world via the easily accessible "look at me!" platform known as the Internet. But only a few command the type of respect and have the type of credible knowledge that gets us to pay attention every single time a new review comes out. Chris Harris is one of those people, and he just released his thoughts on the new Ferrari 488 GTB.
Harris and Ferrari have mended their differences since he called out the Italian brand for tinkering with the cars the press was driving to make them better and they subsequently stopped letting him drive their cars. Ferrari took Harris to its own test track, the Fiorano circuit, and gave him a test driver to take him through some of the motions and explain some of the differences between this and the 458, which it succeeds.

The 488 GTB is powered by a twin-turbocharged V8, and that's definitely a main focus of the drive: How does it feel, how does it respond, does it change the experience at all? Short answer: The power output is so smooth and adequate that he says you could barely even notice it has turbo input.
As far as pure speed goes, he states, "I don't know where they go from here. This is F12 fast." If you've forgotten, the F12 has a naturally aspirated 12-cylinder engine, so that's saying something.
The 488 brings a massive 670 horsepower and 560 lb-ft of torque and has a weight distribution of 41.5 percent front to 58.5 percent rear. And as you'll see from Harris on track, if you know what you're doing, the speed you can maintain into the corners while still controlling the angles almost looks simple. It's not, obviously, but the tech in the car, including smarter dampers that can determine the stiffness of every corner of the vehicle and the differential lock, is just remarkable.
Okay, babbling, just watch the video, you'll see what we're talking about.
