Watch The 774HP Hennessey Mustang Race to 207.9 MPH
The 200 mph club is more or less reserved for supercars… and now this 2015 Ford Mustang from Texas. Earlier this year, Hennessey Performance set out to break that hallowed 200 mph barrier with their 717 horsepower modified HPE700 Mustang. The team came up just five miles per hour short, but weren’t about to let a few digits stop them. In late May the Hennessey group reconvened at the Continental Tire Proving Grounds, unleashed an even nuttier HPE750 version of the Mustang, and notched a searing 207.9 mph top speed. Take a peek at the blistering run, below, and note the attendance of one Jay Leno in the crowd. RELATED: Check Out the 2015 Hennessey HPE750 Ford Mustang
“If at first you don’t succeed, just add more horsepower and rpm and try again,” joked company founder John Hennessey. The new HPE750 package evolves the already heady HPE700 guise, offering up a staggering 774 horsepower and 648 lb-ft of torque courtesy of a 2.9-liter supercharger, now toting a new carbon fiber high-flow air intake and upgraded fuel pump.
Whereas the HPE700 serves up zero to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 11.2 seconds, the HPE750 cuts the sprint by 0.2 seconds and the quarter mile by 0.3 ticks. This car’s unnamed natural challenger is, of course, the Dodge Challenger Hellcat, and with specs like this the two can trade blow for blow all day.
Fancy one? Hennessey will build 500 iterations of HPE700 and HPE750 Mustangs for 2015, with the latter retailing for under $70,000 (including the Mustang).
