Hyundai is 'Extremely Concerned' By FIFA Corruption Scandal
Only a few days ago, 14 FIFA officials were arrested in connection to corruption charges surrounding the 2010 World Cup. While FIFA president Sepp Blatter is convinced he can “restore trust” among fans, many sponsors aren’t sharing the same sentiment. Visa, Coca-Cola, and now Hyundai are all questioning their relationships with the international organization. Speaking with Hyundai’s Global PR Team directly, we were told that the automaker is “extremely concerned” with the allegations: "As a company that places the highest priority on ethical standards and transparency, Hyundai Motor is extremely concerned about the legal proceedings being taken against certain FIFA executives and will continue to monitor the situation closely." Hyundai officials did not respond directly to questions regarding the idea of pulling FIFA sponsorship entirely.
Since 2002, Hyundai has been a lead sponsor of the FIFA World Cup and has spent hundreds of millions of dollars ensuring the continued partnership. With the investigations continuing into the upcoming 2018 and 2022 World Cups by officials, Hyundai, Kia, and other sponsors alike will expectedly keep a close eye on the situation.
