This Open-Wheel Toyota Concept Looks Like Tons of Fun (If It’s Real)
Toyota has a long-standing reputation as one of the most docile automakers around. The Camry, the Corolla, and the Prius *shudders* are some of the most bland cars on the market today. But when new CEO Akio Toyoda took office of, things started to look at bit more promising in the fun department. Toyoda is a massive enthusiast. He was the single driving force to bring the Lexus LFA, FR-S/BRZ twins, and the entire F Sport lineup for Lexus. Not to mention a soon-to-be-released joint sports car project with BMW. But Toyota's latest project, according to not-so-reputable Motoring.com.au, sounds like an absolute hoot (if it's real). RELATED: See More of the Toyota FT1 Sports Car Concept
According to the report, the concept was designed to capture the imagination of children who are going to become the next generation of car buyers. Or more accurately, grown men who still want to be children.
The car itself is supposedly going to incorporate an Ariel Atom/Caterham look to it, although, the cockpit will be completely enclosed. It will have exposed suspension and wheels, and will be a front engine, rear drive sports coupe. Right now rumors point Toyota using a 1.5-liter four-cylinder engine, helped along with some form of hybrid power pack. It will also use extensive carbon fiber pieces to save weight and create a super strong crash structure.
As much as we'd like it to happen, we're not sure how real this concept is. But if true, it should make its debut at the Tokyo Auto Show later in the year.
