Watch a Pair of Jeep SRT8s Clock Ten Second Quarter Mile Passes
The Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT8 isn’t exactly a small lightweight race machine. It is however quick… blisteringly quick. Then again, ‘small’ doesn’t really fit the muscle car modus operandi, and rest assured these Hemi-fied Jeeps surely fit that hallowed category. This pair of tuned Grand Cherokee SRT8s – one turbocharged, one supercharged – lined up at a recent drag event and quickly showed their straight-line ability. The former, featuring an 82mm turbo hanging off the 6.1-liter Hemi drivetrain, boasts an uprated transmission, fuel pump, and injectors, and was dyno’d at a tire-melting 940 horsepower. Though a bit slow on the start, it showed a quick-launching Dodge Charger just how long its legs are, pulling in a 10.86 second pass. RELATED: This is What $100,000 of Custom Jeep Looks Like
The second SRT8 features a relatively stock setup aside from a ProCharger supercharger running 11 pounds of boost, race cam, and reinforced transmission. Making an estimated 660 horsepower, it managed a very brisk 10.91 second run at the quarter mile.
Makes you wonder what the current top-of-the-pile Jeep Grand Cherokee could do with a few power add-ons – the 2015 SRT Red Vapor. Direct from the factory its 6.4-liter Hemi V8 turns gasoline into 475 horsepower, clears the 60 mph mark in 4.8 seconds, and makes haste down the quarter mile in 13 ticks of the clock.
