Meet the Man Behind One of the World’s Greatest BMW Collections
Do you remember the first time a car ever throttled-up your heartbeat? This man does – Highway 80, Northern California, the 1980s – an E30 BMW M3 blitzing by at full chat. It’s a scene that must have stuck with him, as it should, because that E30 instance planted the seeds for one youngster to grow up and become caretaker of one of the greatest vintage BMW collections in the world. The mysterious Southern California collector – no, you won’t see his face – holds the keys to 45 classic BMWs (55 including parts cars), which span every standard model from 1960 to 1988, and even include the first of two rare BMW 700 RS racing cars. BMW cameras recently popped by his secret car stash, and the story these images tell is quite remarkable. RELATED: Take a Closer Look at the Iconic 1972 BMW 3.0 CSL

Immediately clear is that this isn’t some trove of non-running museum pieces, rather ‘The Collector’ purchased all 45 cars for their drivability and it would appear he and his shop foreman give them all their necessary exercise.
“I buy the cars because I want to enjoy the cars, not just from a visual perspective, but also from enjoying driving them.”
The collection began with a solitary BMW 1600 and has since grown significantly larger over the years, now accompanying Alpinas, his sought-after E30 M3, and an absolutely sinister ‘80s M6, among many others. What gems can you spot in the video?
