See This BMW i8 Hide its License Plate, Then Win a Drag Race
Not everyone is a fan of the front-facing license plate. For some, the numberplate is a symbol of national pride, for others, it’s a beacon for tallying speeding tickets. But who says there can’t be a happy medium? It’s safe to say this clever BMW i8 driver found it. To onlookers’ surprise, the i8 pulled off the motorway en route to a supercar event in Weeze, Germany, and turned its front license plate into a Houdini disappearing act – there one second, gone the next. According to the video’s uploader, the BMW driver informed them the plate flipper made for better photographs of the car… but the cameraman remains to be convinced. Regardless of its quick-flip photo convenience or speed-camera avoidance system, the BMW i8 made off like a bandit during drag racing at the 2015 Spring Event supercar meet at Weeze’s airport. The i8 lined up on the tarmac next to a Mercedes C63 AMG and a Porsche 911 GT3, and gave both a firm taste of hybrid performance.
In stock form, the BMW i8 musters up 357 horsepower and notches a zero to 60 mph sprint in under 4.4 seconds. Given the way it lead both cars, this i8 may have a bit more in the way of power modifications to go along with its trick license plate holder.
