Insane ‘Death Race 2000’ Corvette Looking for Insane New Owner

This crazy cool Corvette was featured in the 1975 film Death Race 2000, and now, it's going up for auction to the highest bidder. The movie, directed by Paul Bartel, took place in a dystopian future where contestants competed in a cross-country road race where points were awarded for speed and the number of pedestrians they hit along the way. The Shala Vette was driven by Frankenstein, played by David Carradine, and it looks like some sort of mutant alligator. He's the most famous driver in the race and his biggest rival is Machine Gun Joe, played by Sylvester Stallone. It was designed by James Powers and constructed by Dean Jeffries and George Barris starting with a Volkswagen chassis. There's a Chevrolet Corvair air-cooled flat-six under the visible engine that's just for looks. It has a three-speed manual transmission and BF Goodrich T/A radials that give this reptilian wonder its grip. The inside is just crazy with a green diamond-pleated interior including a wrapped steering wheel and matching green carpeted floors. You'll have your chance at owning this Corvette when it goes up for auction through Mecum with an estimated price between $20,000 and $25,000 this May.
