Helpful Drunk Driver Pulls Himself Over, Calls Police
It's never a good idea to drink and drive, but that doesn't stop people. Sometimes they make it home safely, sometimes they get caught by the police, and sometimes they cause deadly accidents. Oh, and sometimes they pull themselves over and call the cops to turn themselves in for breaking the law. This incident happened in Canada when 55-year-old Donald Dummer of Essex County started to feel bad about driving while drunk. He did the responsible thing and pulled over, but went one step further and called the police to report his bad judgement. In an interview with The Star, Dummer's story becomes less amusing and more one of a man who has finally reached bottom and decided to get help. He said that he has been an alcoholic for at least 10 years and has had a particularly rough time after getting sick and being unable to work.
Dummer was on his way to a welfare appointment after a night of drinking and decided it had to stop. This prompted his call to the police. Although embarrassed by the attention his story has received, Dummer is grateful. He is now in the process of seeking treatment and hopes to turn things around.
