2016 Jaguar XF Vies for Your BMW and Mercedes Money

The BMW 5 Series and Mercedes E-Class have long been the go-to options for the luxury midsize car buyer. Add in Lexus and Audi, and you're looking at a fairly stacked lineup of executive cars. But Jaguar doesn't seem to be worried.  The firm's all-new XF sedan will be revealed next week during a daring high-wire stunt in London. It strives to be both lighter, better looking and more efficient than its German rivals. Them's fighting words. The scalable lightweight platform made its original debut underneath the 2013 C-X17 concept (to become the 2016 F-Pace crossover) and also finds a home underneath the new compact 2016 XE sedan. The aluminum chassis should cut a significant amount of curb weight from the new XF, and, according to Jag, it ought to tack on some significant MPG gains. The firm estimates European cycle fuel efficiency estimates of up to 70 mpg. Jaguar hasn't officially revealed the XF's powertrain details but the brand's new potent and fuel-sipping four-cylinder Ingenium engines will slot underneath. And if the current crop of V8 supercharged XFR and XFR-S Jags are any indication, expect eight-cylinder fury under the new car, too. The 2016 XF's high-wire action reveal takes place in London on March 24, with its official debut penciled in for the 2015 New York Auto Show on April 1. Stay tuned. We will be there.
