This is the Car Commercial That is Blowing Everyone's Minds
Depending on where you're from, you might not be familiar with the Skoda brand. Skoda, Volkswagen's Czech subsidiary, offers a wide swath of vehicles that help buyers into VW Group's entry-level... just not in North America. They also apparently know a thing or two about viral advertising. Take a look at the new ad for the Skoda Fabia, the brand's five-door hatchback based on the Volkswagen Polo, two cars the US doesn't get. We won't spoil the ending, just know that things happen and if you can realize what's going on, you're more attentive than most (don't worry, it's not one of those screaming videos). Did you catch all those changes? From start to finish, the storefronts change, a woman holding a pig shows up, the scooter turns into a pair of bicycles, a monkey appears up on the roof, the van morphs into a London taxi – even the faces of the buildings change colors.
The popular ad is the work of AIS London, and capitalizes on a phenomenon known as 'change blindness', which occurs when viewers are unable to detect slight changes in visual stimulus. Hence, not being able to notice a building changing from green to blue.
Of its own merit, the Skoda Fabia is quite the eye-catcher too. To the chagrin of jealous North American fans, UK buyers can pick up a five-door Fabia for only £10,600 (around $15,600).
