Outlandish and unpractical as one can get.
There are times in an automaker history that the presidents, VP’s, and bean counters take a vacation from doing the ordinary, and let the engineers loose to build, “whatever they want.” This usually results in cars like the Camaro Z/28, or better yet, the Mercedes-Benz AMG 6x6. The most insane off-roader known to man.
With a total of six wheels, five differentials, three axles, enough ground clearance to cross the English Channel, and a 5.5-liter twin turbo V8, this 536 horsepower machine is about as outlandish and unpractical as one can get. Not to mention expensive.
But even as outlandish as it is, there's still a market. So much so, in fact, that Mercedes officials have told potential buyers they're fresh out. According to GTSpirit, all 100 6x6s have already been accounted for, at a cost of $430,000 each brand new. A sad day for anyone looking to conquer some rough terrain. There is some good news: for those of you looking to cop one of the used market, they are popping up. But be ready to have your checkbooks ready, one in Florida was selling for a monstrous $1 million just a few weeks ago. It ain't cheap, but it is fun.
