Kia Trail'ster Hybrid Makes Off-Roading More Adorable

Fact: everyone loves the little Jeep Renegade. Not only can you practically fit it in your pocket, but it can also conquer some of the toughest terrain around. But Kia wants to get in on the adorable off-roader game too. Enter, the Kia Trail'ster Hybrid concept. Based on the Soul, it’s pretty easy to see that the Trail'ster was built for the rough stuff. It features an electric all-wheel drive system paired to 19-inch wheels wrapped in Pirelli Winter Carving 245/45/19 snow tires. Not to mention a fully-retractable roll-top weatherproof canvas roof. RELATED: See More of the 2015 Kia Trail'ster Concept Under the hood is a 1.6-liter 4-cylinder turbocharged engine that pairs to the aforementioned electric all-wheel drive system. The gas engines puts out 188 horsepower, while the electric motor kicks in an extra 36 ponies, pumping it up to 224 horsepower in total. Kia says that the Trail'ster can run in pure electric mode for two to three miles at low speeds, and provides an overall five to 10 percent efficiency increase over the standard Soul. No word on whether it will actually head into production, but we have our fingers crossed.
