Ford Fiesta RS May Be In The Works

The Ford Fiesta is a hot little hatch and the ST is one heck of a value. The only problem is that it doesn't quite have the horsepower many would like with only 180 horses coming from its 1.6-liter turbo engine. Looks like Ford agrees as it is planning a new, higher-performance version of the Fiesta, possibly with the vaunted RS badge. The news comes from Ford Performance manager Tyrone Johnson who spoke to Autocar about the company's plans for performance models over the coming year. He said that they are definitely working on a new Fiesta model, but wouldn't confirm or deny the details. It would also be on the current Fiesta chassis, which means we'll likely see it arriving sometime within the next couple of years. It might seem like just a bunch of letters, but the difference between an ST and RS is a big one. Vehicles labelled ST are considered by Ford to be merely enhanced versions of an existing car. Slapping an RS badge on there means it's considered a high-performance vehicle and is subject to meeting certain standards to attain that designation. Let's all cross our fingers that this new mystery Fiesta has what it takes to earn that RS badge.
