Watch a Tesla P85D Out-Sprint a Lamborghini Aventador
Pitting an electric car against a supercar seems like a fairly silly thing to do, or at least it was, until the 691-horsepower Tesla Model S P85D came around. The dual-motor and all-wheel-drive toting P85D can rocket from zero to 60 mph in a swift 3.2 seconds – supercar territory no doubt. So what can it do against a 691-horsepower Lamborghini Aventador? App mogul and supercar fiend Allen Wong wanted to find out, so he lined up his new Tesla Model S P85D against his Aventador. The results might actually blow your mind. In Wong's recap of the drag race, he admits that the P85D certainly out-sprints the Lamborghini to 80mph, but notes that the Aventador simply walks away in third gear – a valiant showing nonetheless. Wong likens the acceleration in the Tesla to a 50 pound person laying “flat on your face and chest,” while the Aventador feels more “like being a boat on strong waves and you keep rocking back and forth between the gear shifts.”
Best of all, Wong apparently bought the potent Model S as a Christmas present for his mother. "I wanted her to drive a safer, more luxurious car.” Unless she previously owned a hypercar, I think we can add “faster” to that checklist as well.
