Expectedly so, the story behind this silver screen Prancing Horse is a memorable one. The current seller explains that when Miami Vice first hit TV screens, a replica black Ferrari Daytona was used in filming, built over the top of a Corvette chassis by McBurnie Coachcraft. Enzo Ferrari caught wind of the faux Ferrari by season two, and quickly filed a lawsuit against Universal Studios and McBurnie.
However, by season three, an agreement was wrought and Ferrari provided two new ’86 Testarossas to take the place of the Corvette Daytona replicars … under one stipulation, and a fitting twist for the show. The replica needed to be blown up, which is allegedly the reason behind the fiery start to season three.
