Artist Turns Hubcaps into Amazing Animal Sculptures
The automotive industry employs some of the world’s greatest artists. How else could we have ended up with the Lamborghini Miura, Chevrolet Corvette Stingray, or the Bugatti Type 57SC Atlantic, amongst countless others. But one bold artist finds his automotive inspiration in a different flavor. He’s not tucked away in a Tokyo design center, and he isn’t jetting off to Modena to approve the latest Prancing Horse. His name is Ptolemy Elrington, he lives in the south of England, and he works with hubcaps. Frankly, his creations are incredible. RELATED: James Bond's 1964 Aston Martin DB5 is a thing of beauty
Elrington transforms your everyday found-on-the-side-of-the-road hubcaps into striking animal sculptures: foxes, fish, birds – you name it, he’s probably created one. As expected though, Elrington works through quite a lot of recycled material, so he frequents scrap yards in search of more media – wheel covers, shopping carts, and other pieces of automotive scrap metal.
After more than a decade and a half working as a sculptor, Elrington has made numerous TV and print appearances, as well as exhibited his work on a global scale, including shows in London, Barcelona, and Athens.
Check out some of his wild animal creations below, and make sure to head to his website (linked above) to see his veritable zoo of sculptures…and even buy one.
