New Ford GT Will Race at Le Mans in 2016
The reports are in, and it looks like Ford will definitely be debuting a new GT-inspired supercar at the Detroit Auto Show. While we don’t know what it will technically be called, or what it will even look like, we do know that it will race at Le Mans in 2016. According to Autoweek, Ford has plans to race its new GT supercar in the GTE class at Le Mans beginning in 2016 under the watchful eye of Chip Ganassi. Even more interesting, alongside Le Mans, Ganassi will run two cars in the Tudor United SportsCar Championship. RELATED: See Photos of the Ford GT Supercar
As questioned previously, no word on exactly what will fit under the hood. Some reports suggest the burly V8 from the new Shelby GT350, others suggest an EcoBoost V6.
Either way, we’ll have an exact idea of what Ford’s racing plans are when the new GT (or whatever it will be called) debuts in Detroit next month.
