This Back to the Future LEGO Toyota 4x4 is Amazing
If you grew up watching the Back to the Future movies, chances are your dream car was at one point a dream truck – Marty McFly’s 1985 Toyota SR5 Pickup (Hilux). LEGO ace Paul Kim knows what we’re talking about. That’s why he built one himself using LEGO pieces, no instructions whatsoever, and a whole lot of skill. And we’ve got to say it looks brilliant – from the KC lights all the way to the rear bumper. RELATED: Check out the new 2015 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro Series truck
Kim included a few ancillary items in the build, including two rear fire extinguishers, a tool kit, and an icebox. He even added a diamond-plate effect in the bed, but also as a means to mount the rear tire carrier. The doors open, the hood unlatches, and it’s beginning to give us a serious case of nostalgia…and eBay impulse buying.
But it’s certainly not all show and no-go. The pickup’s bed and body separate to reveal a highly flexible solid-axle suspension (made from LEGO and Technic) and a well-built chassis. Further to the point, instead of dropping in one of the plucky four-cylinder engines this ’85 Hilux would have had, Kim went for something beefier. Okay, a lot beefier – an LT1 small-block V8 engine, courtesy of the Chevrolet Corvette.
