Map of Most Stolen Cars In The US Might Surprise You
Stealing a car will get you into a lot of trouble, so you'd think that you'd pick a really good one to start your life of crime. A Lamborghini or a Ferrari or a Bugatti might be fun, but a minivan? If you live in Wisconsin, Illinois, or Maryland, for reasons we still can't fathom, a minivan is the most stolen car in the state. This mind-boggling bit of data comes from the National Insurance Crime Bureau which has released its annual list of most stolen cars in the United States. The list is dominated by pickup trucks and sedans for a good reason. There are simply tons of them out there for the taking. RELATED: See Photos of the 2015 Ford F-150 Platinum
Chevy and Ford pickups are the most stolen vehicles in the middle of the country with Ford dominating in Texas (which shouldn't surprise anyone). Those guys love their trucks. The rest of the US sees a sedan in the top spot, primarily the Honda Accord – also the most stolen vehicle overall. These might not be flashy cars but they're usually not stolen for fun but for parts.
The fact that there are lots of them on the road means there's a big demand for parts. So a high number of stolen cars end up in chop shops. A lot of older models aren't equipped with the anti-theft technology of newer models, which also makes stealing them just for parts easier. Still, it's hard to imagine risking it all to steal a minivan.
